Trying to document incidents safely while protecting my kids

I know this sounds all over the place, but I am genuinely desperate for practical advice.

Quick context:
- I am trying to protect my kids from stress, but the legal uncertainty is bleeding into everything.
- I have a few witnesses willing to confirm details if needed.
- I work odd shifts, so filing and calls are hard to coordinate in business hours.

Main concern: I am trying to protect my safety and my future without escalating things further.

Any checklist from people who have gone through this would really help right now.

u are not alone in this. start by writing a timeline and gathering every document in one folder. that will make any lawyer consult much more productive. thats what worked for me try to stay factual in texts even if the other side escalates.

A one-page timeline plus key documents can make your first lawyer meeting much more useful. That should reduce chaos this week. If there are kids involved, document schedule disruptions clearly

I remember this panic. from a process standpoint, focus on deadlines first. Missing a filing date can create bigger problems than a weak first draft filing. If there are kids involved, document schedule disruptions clearly.

General information only: avoid informal concessions that undermine your formal position in pleadings.. tbh general information only; confirm with counsel before acting..

If money is tight, ask local legal aid and also call the clerk for procedure-only questions. They can't give legal advice but can clarify filing mechanics Try to stay factual in texts, even if the other side escalates
