Need to request modification but I am confused on proof requirements
I'm embarrassed posting this, but I don't have anyone who understands this system. I'm being pressured to agree quickly, but I'm worried I will lock myself into something unfair. I work odd shifts, so filing and calls are hard to coordinate in business hours.
What I have: I can document schedule changes but need a better format.
What I fear: I can't afford another major delay, emotionally or financially.
What should I bring to a first lawyer consult so I don't waste that meeting?

try to separate what feels urgent from what is legally urgent. that distinction saved me a lot of chaos..

Focus on immediate risk first, then longer-term strategy once deadlines are under control. That should reduce chaos this week

I would prep a one-page summary before any consult: timeline, goals, biggest risk, and what result you can live with.. tbh that sequence usually improves both clarity and leverage.. Ask for plain-language explanations in consults and write them down.

Attorney here. General information only: Been there. First thing that helped me was a one-page checklist by date, like hearing date, docs due, and who I called.

Treat this as process discipline: preserve records, reduce reactive communication, and prioritize hearing-critical filings. Save copies offline too, not just on your phone.

Treat this as process discipline: preserve records, reduce reactive communication, and prioritize hearing-critical filings. - this should improve decision quality quickly.. If there are kids involved, document schedule disruptions clearly.

you're asking the right question. try splitting this into three tasks: preserve evidence, track deadlines, and prep your consult notes. don't rely on memory. Write notes right after calls
